Girl + Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa
I always believe in the word "affinity". Affinity takes sincerity, positivity and the Creator above will connect us. Through a dear friend Marcus, I have the pleaure of having Cary Tagawa as a guest in the Cooking Rendezvous. Through our conversations, Cary like myself believe in the importance of both physical and spiritual health which makes him a supporter of the philosophy behind Girl + the Kitchen. I look forward to have Cary as my guest again when he is back in Toronto.
girl - vegetarian
more than 8 yrs ago, i changed my diet choice, i became a vegetarian. just like that. it was a change of heart not just the food. it was a calling within, a new sense of awareness and awakening. it was easy for me, but not easy for others, like my family, peers, relationships etc. however i am grateful they are now very supportive and showed their true love. often times being vegetarian almost acted as a filtering device for me to filter out and keep only people with true sincerity and respect around in my life. who would have thought a diet choice can have such huge impact? after all it's only food... right? ;
at the grocery store
as a girl, i love to shop but more and more i find myself shopping not for the next fashion trends, instead, in grocery stores..!! different grocery stores, organic food shops, health food stores, they intrigued me. each time i step in, and i am looking at all the wide variety of nature's best offerings of greens, reds, purples, whites, yellows, oranges, pinks, nuts and grains, flavors and spices, always makes me feel soooo grateful and touched me deeply. grocery shopping is an art, it's meditation, it's soothing and no, it is not just another a routine after work chore for the household. although the food are turned into "products" on the shelves, they are still given by the great mother earth. money will not create seeds of nature. when you shop for the next list of groceries, it is nature saying to you: "now let me take care of you by offering you these after long day of work." how fortunate and grateful one should feel to be able to say," honey, what do we want for dinner tonight?"
veg fusion
it always amazes me how people and cultures are connected by food. growing up in malaysia, i was surrounded by 3 rich cultures: the malaysians, the indians and chinese which had given me the wonderful experience of asian fusion foods. it was a piece of cake to replace meat with wide variety of soya based ingredients which can produce the same tastes. during my travel to asia a few years ago, my taste buds had the best luck of many amazing vegetarian cuisines from singapore, malaysia, japan, hong kong and especially taiwan, the vegetarian haven! i remembered sitting down beside a veg street vendor having my vegetarian beef noodles at 3 am in the morning! through years of interesting experiences as a vegetarian, encountered infinite unpredictable situations, hunting down veg places to eat when i travel/perform, taught by fellow vegetarians and self taught fusion vegetarian cooking had skilled and shaped me into a creative urban vegetarian with a passion to learn and share my part in the wonderful world of peaceful food and peaceful mind.
